After conducting user research, interviews, and data analysis, we identified several key challenges:
- Complex interface: Many students found the SudoStudy interface overwhelming and difficult to navigate.
- Hidden features: Key tools such as study scheduling, personal notes, and learning analytics were hard to find or underutilized.
- Lack of personalization: The learning experience felt generic and didn’t adapt to different student needs or learning styles.
- Low engagement: Average student session time had dropped by 23% in the last 3 months.
While redesigning SudoStudy, we realized that academic success isn’t just about access to materials—it’s deeply connected to emotional well-being and support systems. One key insight from our user interviews was the emotional disconnect between students and their support network, especially parents or guardians, who often want to help but don’t know how.
To address this, we introduced Parentify—a feature designed to involve parents in meaningful, non-intrusive ways.
What is Parentify?
Parentify is a companion module within SudoStudy that helps bridge the emotional and motivational gap between students and their families. Rather than just sharing grades or performance stats, it focuses on empathy, encouragement, and progress visibility.
Key Features:
- Progress Snapshots
Weekly reports are sent to parents with highlights such as goals achieved, milestones unlocked, and encouraging notes written by the student or system. - Supportive Nudges
The platform suggests simple, positive actions parents can take—such as sending a motivational message or recognizing a learning streak. - Privacy-Respecting Controls
Students can customize what parents see, fostering trust and agency. It’s about sharing encouragement—not surveillance. - Emotional Check-Ins
A light-touch mood tracker helps students reflect on their learning experience, and trends can be shared with parents to promote conversations about well-being.
The Outcome:
